Prime Time Choir

The Prime Time Choir has been serving at First Baptist Church in Lubbock for over forty years. The choir was established while Ron Lowery was the Minister of Music during the 1970s and has been active with median and senior adults who love to sing and celebrate the goodness of God.

Over the years the choir has cooperated with the Sanctuary Choir in presenting Christmas and Easter programs as well as helping with other presentations. The Memorial service at the Lubbock Area Veterans Memorial has been a recent collaboration over the past few years. In past years many of the ladies of the Prime Time Choir have made and maintained the costumes used in productions. Their time and skills have saved the church thousands of dollars on the cost of costumes and banners.

The members of the choir have been missionaries as well as musicians as they have traveled around the United States as well as trips outside the U.S. Trips have been taken with the Sanctuary Choir to Germany and Austria, Israel and Canada. Trips inside the U.S. have been to New England, Washington D.C. and the capital area, the Carolinas, Florida, New Orleans and Louisiana. They have also traveled to Colorado Springs and the Sacramento, California areas. On these trips the choir has ministered in churches, Spanish missions, nursing homes and national monuments. In each case they sang to praise God and to lift up the spirits of those who have spiritual and physical needs. They always serve to honor God and to bring those around them closer to God and to spread the good news of Christ.

In the Lubbock area the choir members frequently go to senior living centers and nursing homes to lift the spirits of the residents who rarely have the opportunity to attend church. The choir will present a short program or lead a sing-a-long, and share devotional thoughts and Bible verses with the participants. More importantly the choir members reach out to people who just need someone to care.

The Prime Time Choir rehearses every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. just before the noon lunch and Bible study with the pastor. Rehearsals are held in the music suite. The rehearsals prepare the choir for occasional Sunday evening services where they lead and currently the choir is preparing music for the Christmas season. The members assure everyone that you don’t have to be a pro to be a part of the choir. You just need a willing heart and a desire to serve our God through song.
